Buyer Guide · Published August 25, 2026
Compare the actual product, materials, factory, origin requirements, landed cost, compliance, quality controls, and delivery plan instead of choosing a country by headline alone.
Short Answer
China can be useful for rapid development and established material or trim coordination. Vietnam can support alternative-origin and supply-chain diversification plans. Neither is automatically better: the decision should be made at the named factory and line level.
Country guidance is general. Confirm current duties, rules of origin, documents, capacity, and logistics with qualified advisers and the factory before placing an order.
Decision Matrix
| Decision factor | China planning signal | Vietnam planning signal | Evidence to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product development | Useful when frequent sample comments, material changes, hardware review, or close sourcing coordination are central to the project. | Useful after the product specification and supply plan are stable enough for a selected Vietnam site to execute. | Sample responsibility, revision rounds, approval record, and where development materials will be sourced. |
| Materials and trims | China may offer closer access to established fabric, PU, hardware, zipper, label, and packaging supply networks. | Vietnam production still requires order-specific confirmation of local, imported, or buyer-nominated materials and lead times. | Material origin, substitution rules, color standards, testing, import time, and buffer quantities. |
| Order and capacity fit | Consider the actual line, construction experience, production window, and whether the site can handle the planned volume. | Consider the same line-level evidence rather than assuming every Vietnam factory fits larger orders. | Named factory, workers, sewing lines, similar products, monthly slot, and contingency plan. |
| Origin and landed cost | The factory quote is only one input; duties, freight, material origin, incoterm, and buyer-market rules affect landed cost. | Vietnam origin can support diversification, but eligibility and cost depend on the real transformation and documentation. | HS code, destination duty, rules of origin, freight, incoterm, and customs advice for the buyer market. |
| Compliance and quality | Match current audits, certificates, testing, inspection scope, and corrective-action records to the site making the order. | Apply the same site-specific verification; a group-level claim does not automatically cover every Vietnam facility. | Issuer, site name, scope, validity date, test sample, QC checkpoints, defect escalation, and final inspection. |
| Delivery risk | Check sampling, material readiness, production, inspection, packing, and port handoff as one critical path. | Include imported-material time, production ramp-up, local holidays, inspection, packing, and export handoff. | Dated milestone plan, responsible owner, buffer, approval deadlines, and recovery options. |
Four-Step Review
Lock dimensions, construction, materials, colors, logo, trims, tolerances, testing, and packing before comparing locations.
Ask which legal factory and line will make the order, what comparable work it has completed, and what capacity window is available.
Compare product cost together with material movement, tooling, duty, freight, inspection, financing, and schedule risk.
Review current site documents, sample records, quality controls, origin evidence, and an order-specific production plan.
Kanrow Footprint
Kanrow reports 8M+ annual output across its owned sites, with partner factories extending potential capacity up to 30M pieces. The site-level operating facts below were reviewed on August 25, 2026 and should be reconfirmed for the planned order and production window.
Review factory evidenceOwned Dongguan factory established in 2003 with about 9,000 square meters, 120 workers, 2 sewing lines, and metal, webbing, and bag production capability.
Owned Hunan bag factory with about 11,000 square meters, 280 workers, 6 sewing lines, and cutting, stamping, edge painting, glue, sewing, and packing departments.
Owned Vietnam bag factory in Long An Province with 130 workers and 3 sewing lines for alternative origin planning and export programs.
Owned Vietnam bag factory in Duc Hoa District with 120 workers, 4 sewing lines plus room for one additional line, adding capacity for diversified sourcing plans.
China And Vietnam FAQ
There is no universal answer. Compare the approved specification, material route, labor and overhead, tooling, order volume, duty, freight, inspection, payment terms, and schedule risk. A lower unit quote can produce a higher landed cost if other assumptions differ.
That workflow can be practical when the production site receives a complete approved specification, matched materials and trims, a physical or controlled reference sample, revision records, and clear quality ownership. Confirm transfer time and re-approval requirements before committing.
It can be considered for capacity or origin planning, but the buyer should first validate material consistency, tooling, color standards, workmanship, testing, labeling, packing, and inspection across both sites. Split production should not be assumed to be interchangeable.
Request the legal factory name and address, current site-specific audit or compliance documents, relevant product and line evidence, material sourcing plan, sample-control record, quality plan, production schedule, packing scope, and export responsibility.
